end. It is used for applying broad areas or washes of water color (see Brush).

Whisk, a mediaeval tool of the illuminator used for beating up egg white as a
medium. It appears to have been a wooden stick with a flat, thin, circular loop
at one side, this being also of wood. It is illustrated and described by Thompson in
